Sweater Vests: Where to Buy & How to Style

Updated: Mar 1, 2022

Something without a sleeve is easily mistaken for summer clothes. However, with the right material, sleeveless clothes could provide just the right amount of warmth, especially during autumn when the weather unpredictably shifts from cold to warm. My favorite sleeveless clothing for this time of the year is a sweater vest. Depending on the material, its price and warmth could vary. Here is a brief breakdown of different clothing stores that sell sweater vests, the materials they use, and the price. If any of these catch your attention, purchase one before we enter the tremendously cold season. Tap on the photo to shop!

H&M

H&M uses 100% acrylic for these sweater vests. Acrylic is a lightweight material but is often used for sweaters as they have the ability to retain heat. They are a perfect alternative for expensive materials like cashmere. The price is $12.99— quite reasonable for a sweater. Dark brown and black would work with practically any style. If you want to go for a little more fun, however, choose the light purple with the white borders that radiates a bit of a preppy look. Scroll down to the end for some styling ideas!

Zara

Zara provides knit vests with 100% cotton. Cotton, unfortunately, is not the best during the cold weather. However, Zara provides unique colors and styles that are worth the price. The sleeveless knit top is available in a gorgeous khaki color, and the high collar knit top adds more texture to your neck. Since Zara’s vests are a bit more expensive than the H&M vests, it would be best to weigh your options depending on what you are seeking. Are you looking for a simple but warm sweater vest? If so, H&M might be a better option for you. If you value sophisticated designs over warmth, Zara might work better!

Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie & Fitch’s sweater vests are simple and chic. Their prices range from $59-65 and are made with 60% cotton, 20% viscose, and 20% Nylon. Unfortunately, all of these materials are not suitable for the cold. Regardless, the vests are lightweight and are perfect for layering. With some warm clothes underneath, these sweaters will be a great accent to your outfit. If you encounter a warmer day, you might just throw on this knit vest alone.

Some Styling Ideas:

Bella Hadid styles her green button-down vest with a black, long-sleeve shirt with the sleeves rolled up.

A vintage sweater vest spicing up the simple, white T-shirt.

Oversized vests, such as those from Abercrombie & Fitch, work great on top of a white button-up shirt. Purposefully having the ends untucked enhances the fullness of the vest!

You can even fold the ends of the vest upwards, creating a nice V-shape!
