Creating Your Capsule Wardrobe: A Guide by F&R

By: Katrynah Broer

Figuring out how to make the most out of your purchases and still be able to plan an outfit everyday can be difficult if you’re missing staple pieces. The foundation of any wardrobe is to have capsule items–having a set amount of basics in your wardrobe will help the process of deciding what to wear everyday. No matter your personal style, basics will always be there for you when you need them.

To start, having two or three pairs of bottoms whether they be leather, denim, trousers, skirts, or a mix, it’s good to stock up on these in neutral colors before expanding to a more colorful palette. The same can be said for tops, two or three neutral colors of each–tank tops, short sleeves, and long sleeves– as well as some texture variation–ribbed or brushed–are important to consider. Along with that, you must consider outerwear when building your capsule wardrobe. Growing a collection of blazers, leather jackets, cargo or bomber jackets, and long coats will help prepare you for any season. Having a few button up shirts either white or light blue can help add dimension as you layer up. For footwear comfort is key above anything, but having a pair of high top shoes, low top shoes, and boots are something you can always rely on and can help you dress up or down any outfit.

Now that you know what to look for, where can you look to buy these pieces and build your wardrobe? Almost any store can help you build your wardrobe, find what feels best on your skin and go from there. That being said, you are sure to find these items at stores such as Aritzia, Djerf Avenue, Abercrombie, ASOS, and Zara, just to name a few. Take a look at our selection below and simply tap to shop!

Now that you have these pieces, how do you style them? With the help of pinterest and influencers such as @matildadjerf, @katee.bartlett, @hannnahhtaylor, and @acquired.style, you are sure to get inspiration.
